Business Partner, Not Recruiter

From the Field
I was having a conversation recently about recruiting and who I look for when building a team.
The interesting part was that somewhere during the conversation, the person stopped me and said:
"You're not really a recruiter."
At first, I wasn't sure what they meant.
Then they said:
"You're more of a business partner."
The more I thought about it, the more I realized they were right.
I've never looked at my role as simply hiring people.
I've always believed leadership is about helping people build the business they want to build.
Not every Loan Officer fits in the same box.
Not every Branch Leader has the same goals.
Some want to build a large team.
Some want to stay lean and highly profitable.
Some want more freedom.
Some want more support.
None of those are wrong.
The real question is:
What are you trying to build?
Because the best relationships aren't built around what I want for someone.
They're built around what THEY want for themselves.
That conversation led me to a statement that has stuck with me ever since:
Build your business around your life.
Don't build your life around your business.
And definitely don't let your business run your life.
To me, that's what real success looks like.
This is what #DOMORE actually looks like in real life.
